Greta Garbo Filly ~ 5 Weeks

My darling luv, thinks she's a chunky monkey barrel racer and smart as a whip!

Hereby Goes the Filly Dance....

We've been joking about this "Filly Dance" thing for a while now...I've been asked how to do it, so ok...here by goes The Filly Dance!!!  Enjoy!

It starts on a full moon and clear night
When the weather is juuuuuuust right....
In a forest clearing, beneath a circle of Elder Maples trees
joined by an overpowering Walnut and a slight refreshing breeze
By the light of 11 candles: 1 Black, 3 White, 3 Silver, 3 Blue, 1 Green
And a long flowing robe so that your naked butt can't be seen
To the crooning of Sinatra, for he makes the ladies swoon
Begin by dancing and skipping in the direct light of the pregnant moon
A dash of Woodruff, Meadowsweet, Oak Bark, Mugwort and Irish Moss....
The last the most important part, else all will be lost!
Each has it's own meaning, just like the candles lit
(to make sure that your baby its born with tits!) <wink>
Now musn't forget an old kettle in the middle
Doesn't matter, big or little...
Filled with water, dashed with the herbs
(You know your neighbors will think at this point you've gone beserk...)
But carry on and ignore the breeze up your robe
For you must now dance with a fervor untold
Twist and whirl, turn and prance
You must achieve the Filly Dance!
Remember, men are not allowed to observe or join
Since all they can do is think with the loin...
Alas, no testosterone can there be in sight
From whence this dance is performed that night
Think filly thoughts and prance with mare attitude
For we all know that mares are far from cool dudes
Flip your hair from side to side
And swish your butt to the circle inside
Whirl like a dervish, til your robe flaps open
Remember, it's all for a Filly that you are hopin'!
Did I forget to mention the tom-tom addition?
Ah yes, at this point you must closely listen...
Turn down your Sinatra and thump on your drum
Slowly like a heartbeat and softly you must hum
Repeat your wish to the Silver candles three
For they represent all that is female energy
Now, if you must know the secret to each candle and herb
That is something I shall tell tale of in another blurb
For now simply dance lively at each full moon and enjoy
And you will almost assuredly not get a boy!

Greta Garbo Gypsy Filly ~ A "Sensory" Session 8-7-10

*From my blog, "Tales From the Stall"

Greta_Garbo_Gypsy_Cob_Vanner_Sensory34Well, what can I say about little Greta other than she is SO adorable! She is inquisitive, kind of eye and face and is now growing teeth of course....LOL. She is so thick, compact, wonderfully conformed and yet moves like she is training to be a barel racer in circles around her grazing mum.... Her coat is still baby thick and wavy like my Cornish Rex cats almost and her mane and tail beautifully blonde. She has a beatuiful shape to her neck back and butt and a crease that is to die for in her little apple butt. She picks up her feet when asked, though still getting her whole balance thing down pat and loves her body curry combed and touched, including her face. I slipped the halter on the other night and she was quite intrigued with it! I also, um...haltered her butt! lol...actually I was letting it sit on her back and lay across her withers and butt to get her used to things of that nature flopping against her or random objects sitting on her.

Greta_Garbo_Gypsy_Cob_Vanner_Sensory04She is quite the flirt sometimes, she wants to play but batts her eyes at you and skip steps away...and heaven forbid you ignore her! When Heather, my vet, and I were talking she practically raided her vet tote and any other foreign object in the stall to get attention! The other night, the boys were chatting directly in front of the stall with the door open as I was undoing and rebraiding Sorcha mane - which takes about a good half hour just in up/down time - and Greta kept toying innocently with them in peaking out of the stall. She finally decided to just walk by and make a go for it and took a stroll down the aisle of the barn by herself...the boys went after her, and Sorcha was bloody brilliant! She didn't charge past me as I told her to Ho and call her baby, which she of course was doing as she turned a few circles in her stall waiting. Greta, smart cookie she is, took a walk right back to mum just as casually. lol. Sorcha is wonderful with her - just enough parenting, but not completely overprotective. She's very aware of where little Greta is, but is ok where her dashing and darting about as long as she can see, smell and hear her. And last night, as I worked on Sorcha's legs again, mischeivious Great thought it would be funny to squirt mom's milk at me...so much for worring about Sorcha's milk production! :-D If the weather holds out and I have a little help, we are going to try the wonder ability that is the wash rack this weekend and give Sorcha a good bath and baby and spritz or two, though she's keeping herself pretty clean as a whistle just yet, thank goodness! She has all the style and poise of a princess, but so far none of the brattiness...I'm sure *that* will change when she hits the terrible terror age though! Can't be *that* lucky she'll be a Grace Kelly or Princess Di forever! I'm telling you...she picked her name and told it to me as it was the furthest thing from what I was ruminating on before her birth and singing to momma's belly about brewing me up a silver dapple filly (no joke) lol...and she's living up to the poise and beauty that is her namesake and the wonderful ladies of that era. *sigh*. Happiness.

"I'm not so shy anymore with my face...I do so love scritches in my mane, forelock and I think I've inherited me mum's favorite secret spot on my cheeks/jaw where the soft spot is between my front teeth and my molars (the bars)"

"Grandma has my leg!! I may be worried, but I love her touching me, so I stand nicely...sometimes I try to groom her back too... <wink>"

Mon Petit Bebe ~ Greta Newborn to 2 Weeks

So glad we have moved to a new stables! You can tell the difference with the beautiful pasture in the newer pictures and a much cleaner stall. :-D  A good move for everyone to Sapphire Hills Farms.   See the updates above! (Sorcha's feather was shaved this spring, see my blog "Tales From the Stall" for more details.)

The little peanut about 4 hours after birth...Mom had an easy delivery, hard pregnancy, but both are hearty, healthy and happy!  The filly is the get of West Hill Ranches Simon and Apple Acre Sorcha and is a Silver Dapple almost assuredly! We are very excited in our first baby and so thankful everything went smoothly. Can't wait to get them outside soon, but darn the heat! In pics of Sorcha's feather, if you haven't been following our saga on the Apple Acre fan page, we have been shaving her up over the fall, winter and spring now to treat some itchies since her feather is so full that we can never get down to the root of the issue well enough. Between that and the wonderful midwest mud, we may just shave again actually - certainly can't stop it from coming back in, that's for sure! She has about 2 months or so growth back in these pics. :-D

Silver Dapple Sorcha 2010 Expected Foal!

WeWest_Hill_Ranches_Simon_Sire are pleased to announce the successful pairing of Apple Acre Sorcha with West Hill Ranches Simon! We are expecting a July 2010 foal and already doing the "Filly Rain Dance" in all our excitement. We had planned to use a breeding available to Celeste's Belenus, however the timing of Artificial Insemination (he's in California!), this summer and Appleby once again in June just didn't permit us to have all puzzle pieces fall in to place.

We chose instead to send Sorcha out to vacation for the summer at West Hill Ranches, where George and Kristina promised us she'd be hidden in a back pasture "Gypsy style" <wink wink> since she sticks out like a sore thumb with all that silver dapple glory and stocky body. After giving our silly maiden mare a lesson or two on just what Simon was trying to tell her all puffed up and excited, Sorcha finally did figure out boys are not just for playing with!

We are all VERY excited to see what this pairing brings and have the best of thoughts that this special bundle arriving next year will be worth the wait.
